A class act – that about sums up Tommy Flanagan. He faithfully accompanied Ella Fitzgerald for a couple of periods, starting from the mid-fifties, and in this beautifully recording album with Peter Washington and Lewis Nash he pays tribute to her with numbers like ‘How High the Moon’, ‘Cherokee’ and ‘Love You Madly’.
It’s one of my favourite Flanagan albums – he starts and ends the album with this number. As an opener (here) its a wistfully slow swinging ballad, at the end its a quick romp. Enjoy!
