Sax

These are my pick of the best sax solo transcriptions sites I’ve found:

  • Charles McNeal’s extraordinary site boasts TONS of solo’s that he’s transcribe over the years. Covers almost every great player you can think of from Wardell Gray to Vincent Herring
  • Lucas Pickford’s site typically has a great selection – Brecker, Shorter and Trane feature heavily
  • Some tidy samples of Charlie Parker, Trane and Dexter Gordon are available here
  • Louis Gerrits has done a fantastic job his unofficial Michael Brecker site, which features info on the late great man, plus a hatful of transcriptions!  Really nice to be able to listen to the recordings too while you study the notes.
  • Charles Schneider maintains this site for EJMA it’s a veritable Gold-Mine of Transcriptions from a massive number of artists.
  • Someone called Andy has transcribed some of Hank Mobley’s great solo’s from Soul Station on his site.
  • There are lots of transcriptions of Cannonball Adderly on Gilles Miton’s site which is truly a labour of love in honour of the rotund Altoist.
  • Lots of useful resources, play-alongs and transcriptions on expresssax.blogspot.com.
  • Driftin’ On A Reed is a nice blog run by sax player Eddie Rich.
