Kind of Blue transcriptions (ebook)

Really nice little book containing the entire performances from that 1958 date, great way of studying the different styles of four (actually, five if you count Wynton Kelly on Freddie Freeloader) great soloists.

Beautiful Love (Bill Evans)

A nice transcription of Bill’s performance of Beautiful Love (take 2) as it appears on the album Explorations. This is one of Bill’s early albums featuring the great bassist Scott LaFaro.

Marian McPartland – Easy Living

A nice transcription of one of the tunes Marian plays on the ‘Live at Maybeck Hall’ recital (Concord label, 1991). Easy Living is a sweet ballad – played here in G – and this is a good place to check out some lovely ‘conventional’ (no disrespect to Marian there) piano voicings and leading. There’s a PDF and a reference audio file so it’s in .zip format this one….

Keith Jarrett bumper book

I can’t remember where I found the original link to these, but they were originally two seperate PDF’s that I’ve stuck into one.  Like my last Wynton Kelly post, this ebook is from a rare Japanese publisher, certainly out-of-print in the West as far as I can tell.

Includes selections from Jarrett’s Trio albums Standards Vol 1, Vol 2 and ‘Standards Live’. Enjoy:

Everybody digs Wynton Kelly

With his light touch, keen sense of swing and feel for for the blues Wynton Kelly is rightly revered. He didn’t record too much under his own name and not surprisingly some of his best playing was under Miles.  Here’s two goodies:

Keith Jarrett – My Funny Valentine intro

I’ve found this transcription as a freebie on Ravenhood transcription site – a cracking resource, that requires you to pay a very reasonable fee before getting your mits on some excellent Jarrett transcriptions. Well worth checking out for $50.

This transcription is from his 1986 ‘Still Live’ album and is a great example of Jarrett working his way into a standard in his inimitable way.

Thelonius Monk – Pannonica

Big up for Dave Radcliffe – he’s done an excellent job of trascribing Monk’s performance of Pannonica as played on the Live in San Franciso record.

For non piano players, the single-line treble cleff is available, but here’s the full-fat version in PDF format.

5 Bills Evans transcriptions

I’ve already posted about the issues of ‘Letter from Evans‘ that are available on scribd. Fascinating reading for the Bill Evans fan.

I’ve snabbed the PDF’s and extracted the following transcriptions from various issues:

Keith Jarrett – Bregenz

I’ve recently got hold of a copy of the Bregenz concert – it was about the only solo effort from the great man that I hadn’t got. While I don’t think it’s in the same league as the Lausanne and Bremen concerts, it’s got some lovely moments. ‘Heartland’ is of course terrific, but I love the quiet opening of Part I.

Parts I, II and IV are available below (the first attachment is a zip containing many jpg files).

For Bills Evans fans, don’t miss this

Lets face it, alot of the stuff on Scribd must violate copyright (surely?), including this fantastic batch of Bills Evan’s materials, links of which are supplied below for your perusal and pleasure. Remember to login/create an account so you can download the PDF’s.

Super. Smashing. Great.
